Her interest in the Fine Arts began at the age of 3 (after falling off her bed, breaking her ankle and being stuck in a cast for weeks with nothing to do but colour and sketch figures on paper.).
CHINESE CANARY - (In development)
Her experimental short “Shanghai Immigrant Self-Portrait” will have had its WORLD premiere at the 2011 Rio de Jianeiro International Short Film Festival. It will also have had screenings in International Human Rights Festivals in Ukraine and Serbia, and go back to Brazil for the Olhar de Cinema Curitiba International Film Festival come June 2014.
HER BLUE SHANGHAINESE EYES
In 2016, Jiang will have completed her second feature film, “Vancouver Rhapsody.” During production, Jiang worked with her local Simon Fraser University Graduate colleagues, other Canadian bred crew artists, and local Vancouver actors to create a movie about “love entanglement in Vancouver.” The romantic drama comedy, explores the difficulties that young lovers face with one another, and the ultimate goals of forgiveness they must practice to move on with their lives. “Vancouver Rhapsody” went on to get accepted into 20+ film festivals, and garnered the Golden Lion Award for Best Feature Film, at the London Film Awards. The film starred Keith Alexander, Lauren Campbell, Daniel Lim, and Kristina Swaroff. It was produced alongside Cinematographer Ryder White, and Alexandra Caulfield.

ABOUT
Betty Jiang (Jiang, Wen wen) is a Writer, Editor, and Director. She was born in Shanghai, China and at the age 3, immigrated with her family to Vancouver, Canada.
SHANGHAI IMMIGRANT SELF-PORTRAIT
Throughout childhood Jiang invested most of her time on sketches, caricatures, cartoons, portraiture, and acrylic painting. At age 17 she developed an interest in human psychology, as conveyed by the touching moments of Film History’s emotionally engaging Method actors (i.e.Meryl Streep, Sean Penn, Jennifer Connelly)and personally brave Auteur film Directors (i.e.Bergman, Kieslowski, Coppola, Breillat). Splitting her college career between two different schools -Simon Fraser University’s Film program (BFA-Film’09) and Methodica Acting Studio Ltd.- Jiang’s BFA film “His White Eyes” has been screened in festivals in the US, Australia, Canada, and Europe, including SLAMDANCE, and has won a Rising Star Award for Excellence in Filmmaking and Best Feature Film Nomination.
HER BLUE SHANGHAINESE EYES TV INTERVIEW
In 2013, Jiang completed filming her first feature “Mother China/Her Blue Shanghainese Eyes.” In this movie she has filmed Hong Kong actress Josephine Tse, whom has worked with Nobel Peace prize playwright Gao Xin Jian. Notably, Jiang utilizes a Canadian International production of US, German, Cambodian, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese descent, and-based on Lars von Trier's dogma 95 rules-shot approximately 87 hours of footage. The 127 minute and 79 minute recut version went on to receive a Silver Award for Best Actress at the International Independent Film Awards for newcomer Liz Cha. It also received a Best Romance/Drama nomination at the Depth of Field International Film festival, and garnered Jiang two more Rising Star Awards for Excellence in Filmmaking from Canada International Film Festival (one for Best Canadian Film and another for Best Family Film).
In 2020, Jiang made “The Gap Between Her Legs.” The key artists leading the project include Polish Canadian Actress/dancer Loriel Medynski (Bella), and Colombian Canadian Actress Juana Samper (Ivanka).
